We spent my partner's birthday in Paris with the kids, staying in La Defense, so I needed a cake. I needed a proper birthday cake: Sponge, cream, more sponge, then fancy icing on top.
Found this online which was nearby, had a decent web form where you could suggest a theme, colours, flavours of course, and custom message and they come back with a quote. The little one needed to enjoy it as well, so it had to be a cake with ducks on it, when they came back (which was a quick turnaround time within normal opening hours) they had a few examples for suggestions.
The shop was small, not really a shop like a bakery but more like an office space with cakes lining the walls, but had a metro line very close to it, good bus connections, and went in with the littlest of little ones on my back, grabbed the cake and was on my way. A few people staring at the cake and the baby on my back as we made our way back to the hotel room for the surprise.
It was a success. Chocolate sponge and a speculoos cream, with a duck on the pond on the outside. Everything was edible except for the wires holding up some of the elements on top, but it was nice for my son to hold onto it before biting the head off the duck ornament on top. The vast majority of the cake was moist, a bit hard at the edges but not stale, the cream was... well, it was creamy, and plenty of elements on the outside to be ripped apart and eaten separately.
The advertised portions were between 6 and 8, and that's right for normal people who want a decent sized slice, especially with three layers of sponge at play. We had some left over for the train on the way back and it kept the moistness well, we kept it out of the fridge as they state but wrapped it on foil and it was absolutely fine. And the rest of the duck was devoured as well the day after.
Very happy with my experience, both the ordering and the eating. If I'm in Paris for a future Birthday or other thing requiring a cake, I'll be sure to order again.
